A Method for Integrative
Planning of E-Business Strategy and Information System
Funded by National Science
Foundation of China under grant 70172034, 2002-2004.
Electronic business poses significant challenges for
organisations as it affects both how organisations relate to external parties
(customers, suppliers, partners, competitors, and markets) – and how they
operate internally in managing activities, processes, and systems.
Paying
attention to the practice in enterprise we explored the way of organization
change when they adopt e-business.
We study how the firm resources and
capabilities are exploited to execute strategies for improving efficiency and
competitive advantage. Our focus in the integration
planning is the e-business processes. From interactive Internet market space’s
point of view, we confirmed that e-business process is the process combining
information flow with business activities flow and resulting from
web-based interaction.
We defined information sharing capabilities and collaborative
process capabilities as two attributes of the e-business process, and
illustrated and proved their major function throughout the strategic planning.
Based on these definitions, we studied and presented the architecture of
integrated planning for E-Business strategy and IS strategy.
There are three
components in our way: 1. the e-business process model and analysis 2.the
critical success factors map 3. the evaluation system for e-business strategy
planning. The empirical study was based on 105 enterprises. We analyzed and
verified the effectiveness of integrated e-business strategy planning on the
three traditional applications: e-purchasing, e-ordering and customer
relationship management. We have done a series of exploratory researches in the
following aspects: the identification of the factors that influence
strategy planning, the creation of direct and indirect value, the method and the
tools for the analysis of inter-organization e-business process, critical
success factors map for the three traditional applications, and the evaluation
system for the e-business strategy planning.
